"Michael Jordan The Life" will be available in stores May 6. "The Jordan story, some of it had been told, but a lot of it had not," said Lazenby, 61. "You'll get one story early in the game while he's playing and then as people look back, you often get a very different story. The book not only delves into the 51 year old Jordan's time at the University of North Carolina and with the Bulls but also details his family history, his youth, his stint with the Washington Wizards and his ownership of the Charlotte Bobcats. Lazenby's last book was a 2010 biography about another former NBA star "Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon." "At the end of your career, to be able to do these kind of books, these in depth biographies, it's very special," said Lazenby, a George Wythe High School and VMI graduate. Writing the Jordan book was "very, very difficult," said Lazenby. He spent 3 12 years conducting interviews, researching and writing the book, working himself to exhaustion. He originally wrote 1,000 pages before cutting it to about 680. Lazenby had written several previous books about the Bulls, including the 1998 book "Blood on the Horns: The Long, Strange Ride of Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls," about the end of the Bulls dynasty. For the new book, Lazenby interviewed about 100 people, including former Bulls stars Scottie Pippen and Steve Kerr; former Bulls assistant Tex Winter; former Bulls executive Jerry Krause; and former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro. Jordan and Nike made each other plenty of money. "Before he ever played a minute in the NBA, he got this fabulous Nike contract that paid him [a] 25 percent royalty unheard of," Lazenby said. "That essentially laid the groundwork for Jordan becoming a Nike partner. It's a pretty amazing business story and a pretty amazing black power story not the traditional black power of protests and politics but a black power story all the same, an economic story." It is no secret that Jordan likes to spend some of his money gambling. But Lazenby said he was surprised to learn the extent of Jordan's gambling. For example, said Lazenby, NFL player "Pacman" Jones told him that Jordan once lost $5 million shooting craps with Jones and others during the NBA All Star weekend in 2007. "Michael has lots of money and he has the gift that keeps on giving with his brand and his Nike relationship," Lazenby said. "To throw away the millions he does gambling, that creates problems for him. Family members, other people get angry. They want things." For this book, Lazenby used interviews he had done with Jordan for the 1998 Bulls book and for a 2008 magazine article. He also had the benefit of interviews he had done with ex Bulls coach Phil Jackson for previous books, including a Jackson biography. Lazenby did briefly talk to Jordan about Jordan's great grandfather for the new book. But otherwise, said Lazenby, Jordan would not talk to him for this book because he wanted editorial control. Learning about previous generations of Jordan's family in North Carolina provided the context Lazenby was seeking for the book. Jordan's paternal great grandfather, Dawson Jordan, was a sharecropper and moonshiner who died when Michael Jordan was 14 years old. "He was the power figure in the family," Lazenby said. "Michael's great grandfather is a powerful story in his own right and no one had ever told that story." Lazenby also learned about Michael Jordan's late maternal grandfather, a farmer and moonshiner named Edward Peoples. "He came to own his own land," Lazenby said. "He had a two story house and all this acreage. They had this determination economically that until you understand that context, you don't understand Jordan." Lazenby also researched Jordan's childhood. "This gets in and explains for the first time his failure in Babe Ruth League baseball," Lazenby said. "He was the North Carolina [Little League] player of the year as a 12 year old. Then the next year he moved up and he rarely got off the bench. "You have to line all these things up and go through his adolescence to look at the building of his competitive nature." Lazenby said a lot of Jordan's competitiveness stems from his relationship with his late father, James Jordan. "His father really was down on Michael as a little kid," Lazenby said. "He preferred his older brother [Larry]." Lazenby used to teach at Virginia Tech and Radford. But he spent a lot of long weekends in Chicago during Jordan's Bulls career for books he wrote about some of Chicago's championship seasons. Lazenby wanted to call the new book "Black Jesus: The Life of Michael Jordan," in part because a Bulls employee used to refer to Jordan as Jesus. But the publishing company opted for the simpler "Michael Jordan The Life.".

The Catalan Capital of Barcelona is famous for many things the amazing architecture, the wonderful food, the Mediterranean coastline, but also the great shopping it provides. Here are my top places to make sure you visit whilst in Barcelona and if you have time, the surrounding area, too. Barcelona and fashion go hand in hand. The streets of Barcelona have some of Europe's beautiful people, dressed to kill at all hours of the day. There are many famous Spanish brands, including Custo (worn by the cast of "Friends" and the only Spanish designer with a shop on 5th Avenue in New York), Zara, Massimo Dutti, Agatha Ruiz and Tous. The city also plays host to various fashion shows during the year, such as 080 Fashion, showcasing all local designers and their creations. So it's no surprise that Barcelona is a great city to shop in, but you need to know where. At the bottom of Las Ramblas, crossing over Rambla del Mar Bridge is a shopping Mall called "Maremagnum" this is a great place to pick up some Barcelona souvenirs from the Official FC Barcelona store, or pick up a bargain at "Lefties" the Zara outlet store. There are some modern Spanish designer shops such as Desigual, alongside the classics like H M, and some smaller boutique shops, with Parisian shoes and belts, or sexy lingerie. And don't worry if you tire easily, there's a caf in the middle, not to mention Haagen Daas, Ben Jerry's, Starbucks and a Mcdonalds! Outlet. This is word that every woman loves to hear. Just outside Barcelona, at around 40 minutes, is "La Roca Village" a purpose built outlet area, designed as if it was a small village with streets and similar sized shops. This seems to grow every time I return, but you can get some really good bargains there, as there are now over a hundred brands and companies dishing out their goods. Levi's, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Nike and Diesel are just a few. There's no need to go all the way to the Roca for the big names, though. The main boulevard of Paseo de Gracia leading from the city's main square Pla Catalunya all the way up to Diagonal Avenue houses many of the best shops and boutiques in Barcelona. Head here to max out the credit card on brands such as Gucci, Fendi, Prada, etc. The parallel street, Rambla de Catalunya is also a good shopping street, and its easy access from Paseo de Gracia earns it status too, as one of the main shopping streets. The Gothic Quarter and Raval also have many great shops and local designers competing for space with the usual high street suspects. Another big investment by the local council saw the birth of Diagonal Mar shopping Mall. This is a very large complex at the end of Diagonal Avenue, in the rather underdeveloped area of high rise apartment buildings, hotels and the Forum Conference area. At the opposite end of Diagonal, there is also "la Illa" with a sister at the top of Las Ramblas on Pla Catalunya. This is a great stop for music and video with the French chain FNAC having 2 big stores, and this is complemented by smaller fashion shops, cafes and often gallery space for local artists and sculptors. There are obviously many markets in Barcelona, and second hand clothes stores dotted around the city, too but that's another article altogether. Rest assured that if you over pack on the way to Barcelona, you'll be kicking yourself when you try and pack to go back home again with all the great shopping you'll have done!! 528895 033 Air Jordan 11 Retro Low Green Snakeskin Black Nightshade White Volt ,Nike Kobe 9 Low EM Away Air Jordan 5 Retro Quai 54 White Nike Air Foamposite One Supreme Air Jordan 5 3Lab5 378037 117 Kids Air Jordan 11 Legend Blue White Black Legend Blue 653972 500 Kobe 9 EM 378037 117 Air Jordan 11 Legend Blue White Black Legend Blue Air Jordan 2 Infrared Cement Air Jordan 3 Black History Month Black Metallic Gold It no surprise that the holiday season is the most lucrative time of the year for e tailers, as more and more consumers have turned to online shopping in recent years. Despite the current recession, the results showed an overall optimistic perspective with over 60 percent of the Yahoo! merchants surveyed expecting sales to be the same as most years or even stronger. Many small business online retailers believe they will bounce back during this year holiday season after a rather disappointing season last year. In an email interview with the WHIR, Paul Boisvert, lead product manager at Yahoo! Merchant Solutions, discusses a recent study that surveyed Yahoo! merchants about their expectations for sales performances for the holiday season compared to previous years. The WHIR: How does conducting these kinds of surveys fall in line with the company overall strategy in serving a small business clientele? Paul Boisvert: We conduct surveys with our customers regularly. It important that we gather feedback from our merchant customers in an ongoing manner so that we know what we doing well and what we can do to better serve their needs. Additionally, it helps us understand current attitudes and concerns that may help us better anticipate upcoming needs. What conclusions can small businesses and customers draw from the results of this survey? PB: Our small business merchants appear to be cautiously optimistic about this year holiday shopping season, and the preliminary data seems to support their positive attitudes: we saw a 6 percent increase in revenue year over year for Cyber Monday. Merchants have been seeing some positive trends, such as a shift in the overall percentage of holiday shopping being conducted online. They believe they can capture their share of this shift. I think the results of this survey support what we already know: shopping online can be more convenient and cost effective than shopping in person. There no waiting in lines, fighting the crowds, or being limited to store hours. And product and pricing comparisons are easier online. Furthermore, consumers aren limited to gifts they can find at the mall; online they can find truly unique gifts to delight their family and friends. What were some examples of the survey results that you found most intriguing? PB: I was intrigued by the industries most optimistic about this upcoming holiday season: beauty and fragrances; clothing, accessories shoes; and food. In all of those cases, more than 40 percent of our merchants surveyed expect this year to be stronger than most years. I thought it was interesting that merchants from the industries like books and magazines, electronics, and music expect sales this season to be back to normal, after being depressed last year. In most cases (with the exception of electronics), these are industries with lower average ticket prices. Merchants in some of the industries with higher average product prices, such as computers hardware, were a bit more pessimistic (only 5 percent of merchants in this category expect thus year to be stronger than most years, and 64 percent expect sales to be weaker than most years). Perhaps the feeling is that while the economy is starting to recover, the gifts purchased may be a bit more modest in size than they were during stronger economic periods. If so, the preliminary data shows there may not be cause for concern, as it appears that an increase in average order sizes actually drove much of the increase in revenue this Cyber Monday. Why do you think the majority of Yahoo! merchants surveyed expect sales to be the same as most years or even stronger, especially when considering that the recession is showing no definitive signs of ending anytime soon? PB: Small business owners tend to be optimists in nature. By definition, they entrepreneurs who believe they can turn their ideas, skills, and passions into viable businesses, often personally footing the start up costs and overcoming many challenging obstacles. This is a tough economic climate, but successful entrepreneurs have faced and overcome daunting challenges before. They may have to be increasingly creative in what they do to survive and thrive, but we believe our small business merchants are up to this challenge and whatever other challenges come their way. What kinds of services does Yahoo Small Business offer to help optimize sales for e commerce stores? PB: We offer a robust, scalable platform with more than 99 percent uptime and the ability to scale with order volume. Our easy to use tools are appropriate for merchants just starting out, yet our systems offer the flexibility and integration options that allow some of the largest merchants on the web to thrive on our platform. Unlike most ecommerce offerings out there, we offer an enterprise class analytics package providing merchants with in depth information about sales, merchandising, and visitor behavior that they can use to optimize their product offerings and marketing initiatives in real time. We also have some useful tools to make merchandising recommendations to increase average order volumes, such as our proprietary automated cross sell recommendation engine which automatically cross sells product combinations that have been purchased in the past. Our merchants can also take advantage of over 30 approved Yahoo! Merchant Solutions development partners to truly customize their sites or integrate back office systems to meet the unique challenges ecommerce retailers of any size may have. With over 10 years of experience in the industry, and hosting more Internet Retailer top 500 merchants than any other hosted ecommerce solution, Yahoo! can offer merchants the security, reliability, and features to make their online business a success. The company said that between Thanksgiving and December 16, VeriSign Payment Services have processed more than 23.6 million Internet merchant payment transactions totaling approximately $3.54 billion in online sales volume. The numbers for last year were 16.9 million transactions totaling approximately $2.89 billion, the company said.
