Christmas for me was very different from most children living in the United States at that time. The French/Cajun traditions of those days did not include Christmas trees, wrapped presents and definitely not, jingle bells in the snow. On Christmas morning, momma would wake us early while it was still dark. We would then set about hunting throughout the house for our one present. In our shoes, that we had set by our beds, we would find, apples, oranges and sometimes a variety of nuts. Santa was referred to as a woman, "La Sante Claus." After we had found our present and played with it for a while we would be fed breakfast. The family was then loaded into a horse powered wagon or later an old car and we would go to my maternal grandparent's house for a dinner and a lot of running and playing with my cousins. There were a lot of those, my mother had nine siblings and my dad, thirteen. The first Christmas tree in any home I lived in, was after I had grown to adulthood. I suppose because France had the Yule Log instead of the tree, no tradition for decorating firs was ever established in Louisiana till much later, in perhaps, the fifties. I attended movies where people sat around huge, brightly decorated trees and ripped open packages and often wondered why they were doing this. We didn't. Scenes of snow filled yards and shovelling of snow always made me wonder how that would feel. I saw a few hours of snow perhaps twice in my life while growing up in Louisiana, and as I said, no trees or wrapped presents till I married. But, don't feel sorry for me, I enjoyed Christmas and all of the other holidays immensely. I had a loving family and scores of close relations to spend these days with. It was all wonderful..

Stepped in countless mud puddles and completely submerged my feet to the point where my ankles/calves were getting wet and muddy, but at the end of the day my socks were bone dry and still perfectly white. It has been five years and a few hundred miles of trail and everyday use, and I still wear them to this day. I replaced the laces, but other than that, they still in fantastic shape and still waterproof. Well, waterproof enough that my feet have never been wet. I haven been dunking my feet in many puddles lately. Once they wear out, I be getting another pair. ie Do not wear the same pair two days in a row. Also wear a clean pair of socks every day. If you follow this routine, these two pairs of shoes will last you longer than if you bought one pair, wore them every day until they wore out and then replaced them and wore those every day until they wore out. Letting them air out for 24 hours makes them last longer. Stranded during a six hour layover on his way to Italy to compete in a duathlon (similar to a triathlon, but with running cycling running segments), the web designer and avid athlete realized how ridiculous it was that he had to resort to jogging in place in one of the biggest airports in the country. "I've got this big race coming up, and my blood needs to be pumping," he explains. The website chronicles more than 200 exercise facilities across the country where vacationers and business travelers alike can sidestep the food court and work up a sweat. Several gyms listed are located inside airport terminals, while others are a short taxi ride away, but all represent a great way to sneak in a quick workout and combat some of the negative effects of traveling (like stress, fatigue, cramping and even the risk of blood clots from sitting for prolonged periods). Below are our favorite picks in (or near) well traveled hubs. A day pass (for the pool and gym) is $30. Not cheap but you'll drop that much on a mediocre quesadilla and a few beers in the airport bar. "That's a small price to pay to know I got a good workout in before I get on an eight hour flight," says Gillotti. "You can spend more money than that screwing around in the terminal."LaGuardia Airport, New York (LGA) Most gyms aren't attached to the airport, but that doesn't mean you should ignore them during a long layover. "When you start getting into a three hour window, that's when you can grab a taxi, go get a workout and then get back through security," Gillotti explains. Just a 3 mile cab ride from New York's most central airport, the The Rock Health and Fitness Club in Astoria, Queens, boasts 30,000 square feet with a boxing studio, isometric equipment and the real highlight, a 30 foot rock climbing wall. If you're traveling with another linksman, you may want to schedule a layover. Paul International Airport (MSP) It may not have fancy equipment, but the busiest airport in the upper Midwest has something the others don't: a 1.4 mile walking loop through the main terminal, clearly marked with overhead signs. The track opened as part of the American Heart Association's Start Walking program in 2007. "I would love to see more stuff like that," says Gillotti. Located in the Edward H. McNamara Terminal, the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport hotel's state of the art WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio lets you use free weights, treadmills, stair machines and exercise bikes for $15 per day. "More and more, I see hotels making day passes available," says Gillotti. Fun fact: Should you desire to stay overnight in the Westin, you can get a room equipped with a stationary bike or treadmill, plus a medicine ball, fitness mat and Pilates DVD. For $18, you can spend your layover in the Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel's recently upgraded workout room. departures area, so it's designed for people watching. In addition to the usual array of fitness equipment (rowing machines, treadmills, etc.), you can do wet laps in the three lane pool (with self adjusted current). For about $35, you can use the Airport Fitness Wellness Club in Switzerland's largest airport. This 1,600 square meter (hey, it's Europe) gym is stocked with top notch workout equipment. The coolest feature? A sauna built into the cockpit of an old Airbus. Men Nike Free 4.0 Game Royal Blue Electric Green Pure Platinum What? I liked it. Loved it even. And nevermind that it was sad. The resolution at the end was good enough. Besides, how else would you be able to show just how talented the Baudelaire kids are in their being an inventor, a reader and a biter (?) if you don't put them in life or death situations wherein they have to work with minimal resources? I was planning on staying away from this thing altogether, but now I'm glad I didn't. I might even borrow the books from my friend. Nothing but praises for all the actors and actresses. Jim Carrey really annoyed me and scared me at the same time. And Meryl Streep was just hilarious. The kids were great too. Liam Aiken was way cute, and I think it's his best role to date. Even Jude Law, who was really just a silhouette, did very good in narrating the story. I really liked the last lines he would say before a new scene/story starts "two words" or "two things" or two anything. I like word play like that. The effects were fantastic as well. The part with the storm tearing down the house, and when the leeches were eating their way through the boat, plus the scene where Klaus was at the tower and his head blocked out the light at first, and that's when he realized what the big lens at the window was for. Also, the scene at the end wherein the children walked inside their house and saw the place as if nothing had changed, and then it slowly morphed into its present state burned to the ground. It was so creative that the girl is the inventor as in the one who tinkles with machines, and that the guy is the reader, instead of the other way around like it is in most stories. And the scenes with the books coming out of the shelves were also my favorite. That effect was way cool. Everything was great. The places they went to, Violet's costume, hairstyle, and those wicked awesome spyglasses. Maybe it's just me, but I really love mysteries and stuff like that. Especially characters like that smart characters, all useful even in the weirdest and most 'unfortunate' of situations. I even liked the drama part at the end where the children read the letter from their parents; "Always remember that no matter where you are, as long as you're together with your family, you're home," it had said (from what I remember at least). Although it seems too sentimental, it was the perfect motivation for the Baudelaires to never lose hope. And as simple as the film's quotable quote may be, I really think it's enough, to leave a helpful lasting thought (or give something to think about) to the people who give up too easily "There's always something." It's better than the usual "Never give up," and "Follow your heart," lines. I could always follow those lines up with the question "Why?" But this one, well, it's actually an answer to the 'why' question. And even if you can follow it up with the question "What?" you can always say that the answer to that really depends on the situation you're in, and so you say a general word like "something" so as it will apply to everything. I think this might even go to my list of favorite movies. October 14, 2013 01:28 PM PDT I am sure that they benefit from this the location, because the topic of this article is very useful, very rich have feelings topic. Thank you!December 9, 2012 07:39 AM PST it is particularly those amateur attempts of recovering information that end up being your data's worst enemy. One thing that makes it special is the popular tradition of Santa Claus.
